Why Art is A Sustenance
Being creative is something I have found myself CRAVING during the last 3-6 months and now listening to this clip, where he frames it in a way that states art is a sustenance, really resonates!
After leaving my second ever job when beginning my journey on 'the career ladder', I realised one thing I had to always find in any new role was the possibility of being creative. The further along I have come, the more I have been able to achieve this.
Being freelance now means that I get to choose the type of work I do and who I work for. I'm lucky to have worked and still work with people who give me the autonomy to develop new ideas.
What he says about children and how they simply explore with new ideas, experiments, hobbies and general interests is something I have been toying with in my head and life recently.
I've always said if I could go back and start again, I'd get into film. So I have decided to start experimenting with vlogs and writing for myself, just because why not?! It's an expression, it's an interest, it's sustenance.
Too many times I think we are unknowingly forced to pick one thing, stick at it and not feel like we can explore something new... or worse... "change our minds" :O Yet, that is okay. You can explore. You can change your mind.
I've always been an Ethan Hawke fan, ever since 'Before Sunrise' (if you don't know, get to know) and here, his expression of the necessity of being creative hits the nail on head.
